Hey everyone! I missed you! Finally on the beach! 🏖

Late last Sunday I stopped at Admonition Beach. Was really surprised at how many were there! Fell asleep and woke up Monday to find I’d been swept out to sea...

Yesterday I had the perfect day planned: run my first virtual 5K (originally set for St Patrick on Mar 14, postponed to Mar 28, then converted to Virtual), have a Guinness to celebrate, while simultaneously solving the meta. Parts 1 and 2 were fine, but the meta wouldn’t come. So relieved just now to discover I haven’t lost my mojo!

Agreed with those who enjoyed this one. Happily on shore. Couldn't give this one my full attention until I had submitted a request for a business loan under the new federal paycheck protection program!

Sometimes it pays to repeat Step 2.

As a Californian, I need to know: approximately how many Manhattan cocktails does your body require to prevent freezing solid with extended exposure to temps in the 50s?
RE: your question: the absolute number of cocktails does not matter. One simply must maintain a constant level integrated over the desired time span of about one drink in the system. (One drink, in this case = 1 Manhattan made with standard beverages.) (For fellow geeks among Muggles, alcohol metabolism is steady-state, aka. zeroth order.) Bottom line. Have a Manhattan. An hour or so later, have another. Repeat. Enjoy. Stay warm. Wash your hands and don't touch your face. Remember Winston Churchill: "I have taken more out of alcohol than alcohol has taken out of me." Cheers ....
Well be careful because zero order comes with some tricky parts.

So. Let’s say you are at 100 mg% (well buzzed and probably at the level you do not feel pain) and zero level elimination (which is about 15 +/- 4 mg% per hour in a “social drinker”) means your elimination profile would look like this:
BAC.jpg
BUT, since zero order is also saturable, if you take another drink in 1 hour and then another in another hour (all highly reasonable!) you could hit an asymptotic rise in blood alcohol.
Asym.jpg
Then zero order is NOT your friend because you don’t get back to the approx. 17 mg% until first you crunch through all the excess alcohol. The simplest example of this is the “day after” a particularly hard party (that wine taste with your friends, that football homecoming) even after you have slept 7 hours or so and you are STILL buzzed. I believe at that point you have made an Asymptote out of yourself.

Oh, and after all of that I am still swimming around the ship, keeping my distance. I "think" I see how to get home, but I cannot make it work without a lot of twisting and turning, so experience says that my method is probably wrong or at least temporarily misguided.

Have a Guinness and it will all become clear (or not).

Enjoying a Laphroaig Single malt with Isaac while I contemplate the meta and the snowfall outside. Nothing jumps out at me yet.

I would have bet a lot of money that our muggle blog would never have had graphs about alcohol level.

Well, I'm not sure what to say about the signature/tag line because I was only tangentially referring to Have Gun Will Travel. Please no wagering! 'Gun was before my TV viewing days, and, with all due respect, never heard of 'Suit.

Glad to have sparked the debate, though. Carry on!

I'm ashore, definitely a Kas 3 for me. I'm not even sure what put me on the right rabbit trail but somehow I managed to get ashore. It probably helps that we have a lot more time to ponder these puzzles with all of this physical distancing (I'm not a fan of the term social distancing, we can still be socially close, as evidenced by this forum!). Now all I have to do is find the Tiki bar and see if there's any Kölsch in stock.
