On the beach - that was fun. It's neat when you see it slowly opening up in front of you as you fill the grid.
Have a great weekend!

Solved and ashore! I enjoyed this one quite a bit, though YMMV.

If I’ve solved and you need a nudge, you can PM me. Happy to pay it forward.

So... remember the Bing Crosby performance in Vegas where the crooner got drunk and wandered onto the stage without his pants on so the stagehand had to make sure the spotlight always stayed higher than his waist?
It was called The Unlightable Bareness of Bing.
Why do I bring that up? Why not?
Short work and ashore pretty squeezily (oddly my first guess without using any mechanism). I loved the first step but I thought the final follow-through was pretty meh. But still a good meta. I had more fun than not.

Ashore!
If I don't win a mug, I can always make one...
but it won't have the same cachet.

Late start due to work. Grumble. Meta took 5 minutes after finishing the grid. Definitely a fun one.
Check out this very cool project by many of your favorite muggles to raise money to fight cancer. You get a fun puzzle bundle and good causes get $. Win-win: Crosswords for Cancer

Got it, but with a bit of Googling since I am not much of a movie watcher. Did have fun with this.

Fortunately--but maybe you didn't really want to hear this--movies from the 1980's are old enough to be aired on Turner Classic Movies, where my TV seems to be stuck.Bob cruise director wrote: Thu May 15, 2025 4:02 pm This week's contest is titled Inside Out by Matt Gaffney.
The answer to this week’s contest crossword is a well-known movie of the 1980s.
Your cruise director is in deep trouble. "Well Known" and "Movies from the 1980's" are different spheres of knowledge.
Well known from the 50's are - North by Northwest, To Catch a Thief, White Christmas
Or the 60's - 2001:A Space Odyssey, Bonnie and Clyde, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Doctor Zhivago, The Graduate
We will be showing these movies in the ship's lounge all weekend.
The call for a nudge may come quickly. The meta movie better be really "well known" or I am toast.
I don't have anything clever to say, but if I did, it would go here.
