Like others, after staring at things, finally got the AHA and the solve.

Like the term "SAD" - simple and difficult - to describe the puzzle. Appears challenging, but once you get the AHA, the conclusion follows along rather quickly.

One down (WSJ), one to go (PGWCC) while awaiting MGWCC's week 4.

I got halfway to shore, and then my son (who is generally terrible at crossword puzzles and avoids even trying metas) rolled out of bed and paddled me the rest of the way. On to PGWCC...

sounds like this one was a team building exercise (was here).

Happy 2020 to all!

Soooo ready to get out of 2019 - our microwave oven started smoking late morning on Christmas, while my wife was on the phone with 911, I unscrewed the cover plates, pulled it out, and put it on the driveway. So ... no house fire. But a near miss.

Time to wave goodbye to that microwave...

yes, it's going to Best Buy this coming weekend to find some "friends".

Not quite the answer to this week's meta that I expected, but all are safe.

If you are a fan of the show Stranger Things, it's the same microwave that's seen on a counter in the show ... so that tells you that it's ... probably overdue for a replacement.

On the shore! Nice construction but not too difficult. Happy New Year!

YES. A few times around the "let's try this" block... but then got the connection. Safely on shore. Closing the decade and now on to The Roaring Twenties.

At 11:36 A.M. the light came on! Good to finish the year with a correct answer because I have had quite a dry spell over the past couple of months. It was a nifty construction, although I fully understand a couple of comments like, "My brain hurts!"

Happy New Year to everyone on board or on shore!

Got it almost immediately, which is a nice change.

After so many weeks on the boat, I hope I can find my land legs.

(Having spent weeks at sea on a smallish boat, in RL, I can attest to the strange feeling standing on solid ground can be.)

Done and done. Had no clue on the meta at first and had to put it away for a day. Considered asking for a nudge but when I started to think of all the things I had tried and was seeing, I noticed something I hadn't tried. Put it all together rather quickly after that.
If I'm around, I am willing to join the Muggle Zoom room at other times to lend a hand to those in need.

A belated Friday report as I have spent the last 7 hours doing electrical work for my daughter (new remote switch made harder by a broken box, new dining room table hanging light and wireless smoke detector). Only two trips to Home Depot. It always takes twice as long as I expect.

So far we have 55 on the shore and 5 keeping Isaac in business. And we have our three newest muggles: higgisue, RPardoe and Jackie88. As always we welcome everyone to the party.

Now to work on the meta

Hofstadter's law: “It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter's Law.”

Hopefully the meta solve won’t follow that! 😀

Bob, it seems no project can be completed in just one trip to the hardware store!

I am on the ship with Isaac. Nothing is ringing a bell for me yet.

Ha ha ha oh dear... We have two microwaves, one was a wedding present (1993) and one we believe is original to our current house (1989). So I guess I should expect this sort of thing to happen any day now... You're much braver than I would be!
