There I was zooming right along sure of myself even when the grid was only 1/5 full and then.... ???HUH????
EDIT: I'm utterly and completely perplexed so many found this easy. I'm utterly utterly stumped.
EDIT2: Oh, that trick..... Sangria in the sand, for me please.

GUAVA is not an anagram of VAGUE and PEPPER is not a palindrome.

On shore. Maybe the Guinness has slowed down my brain, but I don't get the clue to 37A and it's bothering me. Anyone care to explain it?

On shore. I saw almost everything I needed, but was flummoxed and not making progress. Then...no...that can't be the way to the solution...can it??? Yes it was!

A la playa. Prosecco and bitter campari to start the evening nice and easy; who knows how it will end?

Ashore! Usually can’t get to this on a Thursday so I’m delighted to see the beach already getting crowded in advance of the holiday weekend. Grid took longer than usual. Went down a few rabbit holes after finding the theme, but finally everything clicked.

On the beach, celebrating with a bourbon barrel-aged barleywine. Gonna be crowded soon, I predict….

Wow. Can’t believe I actually got one on my own on Thursday. This calls for a scotch!

If I don't win a mug, I can always make one...
but it won't have the same cachet.

Ashore4us. Had step one straight away and then went down more rabbit holes than holes found in a round of swiss cheese.

Ashore. The AHA moment comes quickly, but only after a bit of wandering.
