After getting last week’s quickly, I was expecting to be totally stumped this week, probably while everyone else said how easy it was. And for a while there, that’s how it was looking.

Did the grid. Saw nothing. (Actually did see something that turned out to be important, but didn’t know what to make of it at the time.)

Break for dinner, another look, a few shallow rabbit holes, something else related to my initial observation, and aha! There it is.

I’m on shore 🥂
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

On shore.
I think this one would be good in the 101 classes.

Grid done, but packing to head out of town. Don't distract me, I need to pack before I try to solve! :o

Ashore. Pretty straightforward really. Good luck, Muggles! Time for an old-fashioned now.

On shore. I agree with @Beth C

I had to watch North By Northwest first before solving - great old movie but as interesting is the backstory on the houses -

And I wonder if any muggle has a 17A in their junk drawers.

On shore, finally. Had the right idea as to what was going on, but made it more of a struggle than it should have been.

Ashore.

I thought that last week’s puzzle would have ‘had a bad effect’ on our tilting at this week’s puzzle, but we were able to root it out.

Happy solving - good health and good cheer,

I like solving.
I didn't like last week or the week before.
This week the instructions are clear and the mechanism is clear.

" Pretty straightforward really."

No it isnt.

"and the mechanism is clear."

No, it isn't.

Is there anything worse than being stuck on a triggerless puzzle which everyone thinks is easy?

Well, you're wife divorcing you because you are frustrated because you can't see the dang puzzle and it irritates her is pretty bad.
So I just plain couldn't get my meta based on "Up the Down Staircase" to work.

My challenge it to constructors is to make a meta where the meta, theme or metanism is "Up the Down Staircase".

Ashore without paper which I really don't like, but stuck in a hotel in Auckland after my flight home last night cancelled. Second time in a week. It's Friday here but I guess still Thursday there, wow date line is confusing. Was wondering why so few posts. This was not as hard a click for me as I'd like it to be however it simply cannot be anything else, so submitted.

Stay well all and may I suggest flying as little as possible...it's pretty messy

That's true, but I'm not sure it would set a very good example to the class of secondary students in front of me!
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!
