If by "one big block" you mean... "FIGURING OUT THE META"? Then yes, I'm stumbling on that same big block.DrTom wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 5:22 pm All in all this has been a good week. Got all the metas I tried (lots I didn't but I'm not going to go tempting fate). Of course given that it is a week 2 for the Gaffney I suppose I should not feel THAT cocky.
I took a lot longer to do than I could have, but that is because I feel I HAVE to solve the complete grid before submitting an answer. I know that I will never be 1st (or even top 50) so I can indulge my particular 'eccentricity' (wasn't it nice when they called them that). I'll be interested to see if people stumbled the same places (actually only one big block) that I did. I tried to make it harder by making some bad choices, but hey one might say that is the story of my life....

I even got a slight nudge (confirmation that I was looking in the right direction) and I'm still stumped as to the mechanic behind this meta...

One of those 6 people quoted literally (and, I suppose, LIT-rully) creates large numbers of puns that show up on your tee vee for a living.Bird Lives wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 3:15 pm Beam me up. I'm in the top 50, which mostly means I didn't have anything better to do of a Friday afternoon.
And when you go to enter your solution, don't forget -- if you are of the DrTom-ish persuasion --- to look at the comments on last week's puzzle.

Thanks for that encouragement! I did, and I did, and then the cogs started turning once again. It was fun to explore the usefulness of what I found... a true sleuthy meta.Jeremy Smith wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 5:51 pmJust keep staring at it. You will see some interesting things.HeadinHome wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 4:41 pmSRSLY? I flew through the grid. Meta is a mystery to me. What? What do y’all see??

Me too. The numbers in the (printed) grid were extremely tiny. Not friendly to eyes of a certain age (mine), or older.

If you liked The Good Place (the show), you should listen to their podcast. Megan was on it a few times and talked about the origin of some of the puns.MikeM000 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 8:30 pmOne of those 6 people quoted literally (and, I suppose, LIT-rully) creates large numbers of puns that show up on your tee vee for a living.Bird Lives wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 3:15 pm Beam me up. I thought mine (That's my fennell answer) was better than hers (I feel as smart Agate-tha Christie), and she's a pro.MikeM000 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 8:30 pmOne of those 6 people quoted literally (and, I suppose, LIT-rully) creates large numbers of puns that show up on your tee vee for a living.Bird Lives wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 3:15 pm Beam me up. I'm submitted & waiting confirmation.
And need someone to PM me to help me fill in a few gaps in my solution.

Waiting for an update but I'm sure I'm beamed. I had a very similar experience to headinhome...superfast grid, then a series of AHAs after a short break. Now maybe I'll get back to that Patrick berry suite....

I'm on at #215, so all is good. Mike & I have been chatting and I'm better with the path to the correct answer. I'm just being too literal tonight, trying to make a larger jump when it's not needed.

Submitted and confident, but would appreciate a PM to help me fill in a missing piece.
Edit: confirmed and got the missing piece. Embarrassing . . . . :-/

Beam me up! I was on the away mission that found the grid harder than the meta.

Beam me up. I think that I have an explanation for one piece that challenged me (and apparently many others) that is different than the rest, but fun. Feel free to PM me.
