CURSES! I want that mug so badly and now there's someone with two. I feel so flexed upon!

I was looking to find PRIDE in my solution from the beginning but I was not as creative as you in finding a way to make it work.minimuggle wrote: Mon Feb 28, 2022 3:00 pm Well I made a rookie mistake. I got the M & M, A &W, etc right away. But then I looked at the clues and took the first letter of the clue that matched. So I got P (piece of chocolate for M & M), R (rootbeer for A & W), , D (drink for R & B..I looked up R & B drinks which are boba tea with many flavors), E (energizer for R & R). So I immediately jumped to PRIDE. Like an idiot I used the "inn" in the grid since it wasn't in the clues duhhh. Very rookie mistake, but I can still claim rookie status. When a friend and I compared notes and she asked how I got PRIDE, I realized my mistake but it was too late to feel "bliss" since I had submitted "pride" so quickly.

Coming from Cleveland I am familiar with those little delicacies but here in Mobile we must settle for King Cake, the gaudier the better.
I'm going to weigh in on this. Being of 100% Polish descent and growing up with a grandmother who baked them for us, and she was part of the Jaworski Bakery family in Baltimore, we always pronounced it PUHNCH-kee. Fond memories!
Here's an idea: 2x winners get a different and higher value prize, and WSJ splurges and selects a first time winner too! Drives repeat participants to enter and ensure the mugless muggles hold out hope that it isn't actually riggedMikeMillerwsj wrote: Mon Feb 28, 2022 4:34 pm Congrats to this week's winner: Tom Greenhalgh of Madison, Wisc. I don't disagree with the idea, but I don't know if there's any indication that participants need to be encouraged to enter, or that people are discouraged by not winning the mug. Speaking as a 234-time loser myself, but who's counting?Gman wrote: Tue Mar 01, 2022 10:18 amHere's an idea: 2x winners get a different and higher value prize, and WSJ splurges and selects a first time winner too! Duh! I just realized why we're called muggles; thanks, Inca.
Besides winning myself, I was hoping that our own Muggle (M & M) would win !M and M wrote: Thu Feb 24, 2022 5:43 pm Happy to be ashore, and wishing well to all of you who have a (another) storm bearing down on you.
My husband is also of 100% Polish descent; he grew up in Wisconsin, and his family pronounced them POONCH-kah, I didn't know until now how they're actually spelled!ship4u wrote: Tue Mar 01, 2022 9:23 amI'm going to weigh in on this.
