Oh, forgot to check in. On the beach as of last night. Straight-forward and... (the 'E' word).

Enjoyed this one, once I had a moment to focus on it.
Grandson's athletics today: basketball, baseball, soccer. Whew. And he's only 9.
Lots of company ashore this week!
Genius construction!
It's cold so I'll take a nice hot toddy and a blanket please.

Good guess.LadyBird wrote: Sat Jan 21, 2023 4:48 pmWith the angst of losing your entire grid, I thought you would be referring to the (letter after E) word.Barney wrote: Sat Jan 21, 2023 4:09 pm Grid was tough, and then the whole bloody thing got zapped into the ether. I was so disgruntled could not see the glaringly obvious answer without a kick. Aw well, happens.
(Also, I didn’t say the E-word)

On shore. I really need to start these earlier. I shall delay my imbibing until after dinner and enjoy a well-aged bottle of a winter warmer style beer. I expect a lovely malty, fruity, high abv glass of deliciousness.

Woke up this morning to the sound of the ocean in Florida and solved the puzzle.

Finally had a chance to look at this this morning -- managed to avoid overcomplicating it for once. On shore.

I also use my iPad to solve. For the WSJ I use both a PDF from the WSJ site that I drop into my GoodNotes notepad app, then also solve on the WSJ app, taking a screenshot of the result and putting it into GoodNotes. I did a write-up of the method, linked here.auee89 wrote: Fri Jan 20, 2023 8:42 amI use Notability on my iPad to solve PDFs of puzzles. Happy to chat. On a separate note. Anyone use an iPad to solve wsj crosswords having difficulty since format change recently? I can no longer see all of completed grid to take screenshot. Without screenshot all highlighting/ markup tools are no longer useful.
Appreciate any help you can offer.
I do the MGWCC on my iPad as well, though there I just use the PDF, then I split-screen my iPad in landscape and have the Patreon PDF on one screen and my GoodNotes on the other. It makes the zooming and scrolling easier. You can have many of the clues showing on the left while you fill in the answers on the zoomed-in grid in your notepad app on the right. (If you are right-handed, that is.)
PM me if you want to chat it out.
