Knew, but forgot, that the spots on dice are called pips. Was very sure that EMBOLIE (not Embolic, which made LED instead of LCD, and is plural) was what was intended for Heartbreakers. Didn't think TREE was correct for Chipmunks, so just couldn't end up putting this one together. Neat idea though.

I won't say how long I kept working on this puzzle after finding USA TODAY. I was very much looking forward to coming here after the deadline and discussing this amazing coincidence.
