Talk about a puzzle that's not in my wheelhouse!
I started with downs only. Did reasonably well, but some mistakes and some missing in the bottom part of the grid. And no idea what the meta might be.
So I looked at the across clues and finished up the grid. And still no idea about the meta.
So I looked at the meta instructions. That didn't help at all.
Google to the rescue! I've beamed up.

If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.
(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

Everyone has their own way of enjoying a puzzle. I enjoy a leisurely solve, never submitting until I finish the grid. To me 103 is the same as 3. Now off to a cryptic.

On the board - also loved the central entry!
If you see that I’ve completed the MGWCC meta, feel free to DM me and I’ll help you out - nudges, confirmations of paths, etc.

Beamed up. And I got my first badge. Not my first 10-streak, but it's been so long since I had one, I've never had the badge before.

Opens puzzle.
Finds no .puz for Downs Only.
Downloads .pdf.
Goes to printer, finds it not accessible (long story)
Does puzzle on 5mm graph paper
Discovers gaps in cultural knowledge (11D, 29D)
Guesses and confirms via Google
Reads about funny central clue. (The humor of the central Down clue must be extremely subtle.)
Debates looking at full version
That would also tell me whether the answer is character or context, could be either
I'm leaning toward one, but dare I risk my badge on it?

One week you devote countless hours, searching for Matt's meta. The next ... well ... let's just say it's faster than that.

Beamed up!
I kid not.
And I find myself stuck with only one MGWCC achievement unachieved -- "1 Across: be the first to solve a puzzle."
I fear that one is just not in the cards for me with such speedy folks in the mix. I think I managed a 4th place on a week 4 or 5 once, when my first idea of the meta succeeded, but never below double digits other than that.
I kid not.

Beam me up.
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

The only one I'm lacking is solving an Easter puzzle... and one's coming up (and doesn't involve speed).Andrew Bradburn wrote: ↑Fri Apr 01, 2022 4:54 pm Beamed up!

. Enjoyed thinking about this prankster. Always makes me chuckle.
I didn’t start this til maybe 20 minutes ago.. sounds like even if I had been able to start at noon I would have been well down the board. I like to complete a puzzle before I complete it.
