Unconfirmed but pretty sure I'm off the couch. I hope to hear this carol later this week!
Off the couch, into the recliner - nap time! Nice puzzle - thank you. Happy holidays all.

Wonderful puzzle by Peter! I took me a while to see what I needed to but when I did there was a nice AHA moment.

Peter says I’ve served my time on the couch. Now out to the winter garden to see if any of the creatures are stirring there
Nope. Looks like they’ve moved inside for the holidays, with Santa watching over them.

I wouldn't say that. There's a bit of complication involved. But it's directed complications.lbray53 wrote: Mon Dec 20, 2021 12:23 pm Based on the responses here I must be over complicating things.
GUAVA is not an anagram of VAGUE and PEPPER is not a palindrome.

As the long list of quicksolvers suggests, this one wasn't too difficult. But it was a clever idea.
I might have solved it more quickly if I hadn't mistaken the left quotation mark in the clue for 64A ("Jenny. . .) for a star and kept trying to figure out how she might be included in a carol.

My post yesterday was meant to indicate I'm permanently off the couch on this one. Enjoyed it and just enough subterfuge for a newbie like me to feel great about a (relatively) quick solve.
