I have been called much worse than a heel. And by much worse people.

I am ashore back in NH, but still at sea for this contest. Grid done with no inspiration yet for the meta. I used the motivation to do my twice yearly office cleaning today.

Isaac, two Bombay Sapphire martinis please, up with two large spanish olives. Or as you would say -- the usual. Use the palm tree glasses to make me feel warmer.

Bob cruise director wrote: Fri Apr 10, 2020 12:52 pm Speaking of sandwiches, another interesting discussion is what you call the ends of a loaf of bread
You've got a lot of crust asking that...or at least that is what we referred to them as "crusts". I always imagined that when someone got "just a crust of bread" it was an end piece because why else would it have such a pejorative connotation? We used to use them for bait. I mean we would take bread but the "good stuff" we ended up rolling into little balls and eating and used the "crusts" for bait.

And thank you to Joe Ross and spotter for the new and improved grid approach!

I did not solve this meta as quickly as many others seemed to. Reworking the puzzle usually helps me, and this template made that much easier to do.
As you well know, this is like golf - time does not matter.
That is, time doesn't matter ...until it's 23:58 ET Sunday. Of course, given my mug track record, it doesn't matter much even then!

Still afloat, going down a lot of rabbit holes...someone mentioned a growler, and fortunately a local establishment created and sold moi a growler of Manhattans (made with Four Roses), who knew! So with a half gallon of Manhattans laid by, I will work on the meta.

Not sure I'd be able to make it ashore, much less swim, after making a dent in that.

On shore! Stumbled around for a little bit, but landed on the correct answer.

As a teacher at home with little to do with "online learning," I've been rewatching "Downton Abbey." I had forgotten how witty Maggie Smith's Aunt Violet is, and since this re-bingeing, I've taken up drinking hot tea in the afternoons/evenings. I was drinking hot tea while trying to decipher this meta, so I blame the lethargy on that.

The funniest (or saddest) thing I saw on that show was the evening of the day that most of the male servants left to go to war. There was plenty of food and it was as well cooked and well prepared as always, but the family were sitting around the dining table wondering who in the world was going to serve their plates. Heaven forbid that they should lift a finger themselves and serve their own plates from the sideboard or pass the dished around the table as normal people would do.

All this financial talk has made me reminiscent of my Board of Trade days. But that was trading, not investing and the rule of thumb was, 'buy the rumor, sell the news'.

Anyway, here's the Friday night musical interlude! A bunch of Russians (I think) covering one of Chicago's best. Grab a beverage and crank it up!

I've always called them heels. Do you have another name for them?
That is a very upstate New York term. My mother used it.
I grew up in Alabama, and that's the term my mother used, too.

And as Keynes said, "In the long run, we are all dead."
Keynes also said that the markets can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent.
