I'm happy to say I made it to shore with the help of my 13-year-old son! I've been looking at the grid since Thursday and only saw part of the meta. Completely stuck, I showed it to him, and he had the rest of the answer in just a few minutes. Looks like I've had an untapped resource right in my own backyard all this time!

"Gosh those Scandinavian groups were in a rut A-Ha, ABBA, Aqua. Seems there is also one called Bladee; wonder if there is a Bladah"

Maybe they wanted to be first in the phone book...

Now that we are up to ten pages, time to figure out how to get off the boat.

Update: Ashore...I hope. Have a plausible explanation for something but not 100%.

It's *never* a bad week to do it on paper! I almost always do WSJ on paper. Otherwise, the highlighters make a mess of my laptop screen.
Totes. And the Liquid Whiteout is a pain, too.

On shore. Reminder that a key rule is to look at all the information you're given in a meta!

Once upon a midnight dreary ...

At last my befuddled mind has seen the light.

Somewhat past page 1. Somewhat past page single digits.

Add me to Wendy's list of those who got ashore with the help of the Friday Zoom discussion - thanks!

Count me on the boat, it’s the hunt not the prize, right? sigh, not really, it is truly the endorphin aha.

don't think so: no pageant or 5k on this one as the answer is 1000% proof

On shore! Very fun. Unusual for me to be on shore on Saturday as I’m usually struggling til dinner time Sunday. It wasn’t easy.

You guys are all liars. There's nothing there.
So I just plain couldn't get my meta based on "Up the Down Staircase" to work.

My challenge it to constructors is to make a meta where the meta, theme or metanism is "Up the Down Staircase".

Ashore! We'll have an iced sweet tea for H and a strawberry pineapple smoothie for J!
Everyone's comments were very helpful. We went down many incorrect rabbit holes until reading through the comments, which implied we were over-thinking it. By a lot! So we stopped trying to think so hard, and there it was.
