Did you get any takers for zoom? It's more fun if several non-solvers can work together and trade ideas. But if none of the ship-bound crew is up for it, I'll be happy to chat with you.
yes, one person PM'ed me. shall we do 6 eastern / 4 mountain?
@ship4u was the first to name a time, and he said 5 ET. Hope that works for you?
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

After a brief nap (don't tell my boss), the first half of the mechanism became 100% clear. I'm still baffled about what to do for the second half, but maybe I'll get off the boat eventually..

The good news is that I am on the shore with a lot of help.

The bad news is that I have never heard this answer and would not have even guessed it without google.

So the mug is off the options list this week

Seriously????

I bet you are going to hear it five times in the next week.

I wonder if that's the problem I'm having with this weeks MGWCC. It's an American everyone but me has heard of?

Safely ashore, thanks to a great zoom meeting with fellow muggles!

We are always happy to get to know other muggles and help in any way! PM's are always welcome. The next best thing to winning a mug is helping a fellow muggle win a mug!

The brainstorming in the Group Solve worked its magic again: The Muggles got the correct WSJ answer in under 15 minutes with minimal input from Barbara K, Joe Ross, and me! Meg, warn your Cabana Boy to expect a dozen more thirsty Muggles on the shore.
Good luck, fellow Muggles!

I grew up a little NW of the 2 in 24+” and I remember the news desk at channel 5 was shaped like their logo back then.

Ashore thanks to everyone in the Group Solve. I was stuck 2/3 of the way to the answer. I had to google that activity since I was unfamiliar with it. I’m sure that’s a problem for others too!

Ashore! I was two-thirds or so of the way there and thanks to the Muggle Zoom session I got the rest. I was hung up on the one word everyone else was and after I got that change it all became clear. There is a pattern there as it turns out.

Wading ashore after getting a wee correction from the Zoom Muggles that sent me the rest of the way there. Thanks, friends! And for the record, I have heard of this activity, but have never actually seen it practiced. Some Kahlua in my hot chocolate, please.

Finally ashore, having been given a good hard shove off the boat by @BarbaraK, swimming a fair bit by myself, making a wrong turn about halfway there, and then having Barbara come up behind me in the tender and point me in the right direction and shout at me that I could do it. Thought her use of the bullhorn was a bit much, but I guess it did the trick. In any event, won't be submitting this week, but glad to make it to the beach. As I told Barbara, I just don't think the Gaffney puzzles suit the way I think.

I, too, benefited from the Group Solve. I have heard of the activity, but there are four!! grid answers that were entirely new to me. It must be the sheltered life I lead.

Ashore. Really liked first 2/3 but was hoping for more concrete evidence to finish. Does feel like a Gaffney finale, though.

Ashore! Finished grid last night and finally got the meta today (where else?) while in the car. Went to the outlet mall for steps to satisfy my dictatorial little Fitbit.
Lemon, orange and papaya trees are all blanketed (thank you, hubby). Not sure I believe it, but we are being told by local weather sources that tomorrow morning will bring 26 to 34 degree weather to Flagler County, Florida. Keep warm and safe everyone!

On the beach. I think? Pretty sure. Faster than I would have liked. Bored now.
