Reporting from the Lido Deck. 🛳️ I clapped my hands with glee, possibly just in my head but possibly with my actual hands, when Step 1 made itself apparent. Then I tried a few things and got alphabet soup. But I'll give it another go later.

First time in my WSJ contest solving experience so far where I've had to check the grid after solving it and found (2) errors! I think I've latched onto step 1, but a couple hours later, it's time to sleep on it I think. Asea for now, and we'll see if my vision of land proves to be a mirage.

I was pretty into Sporcle geography quizzes for a bit myself-- at one point I was able to get all the countries on a map, all the capitals, and all the flags! Come today I've found that far less than I'd have hoped has stuck. My brain is like a sponge-- soft and full of holes!

Miki, keep your eyes peeled. Matt Gaffney lives in Staunton! (Harrisonburg-Staunton-Waynesboro-Charlottesville are my home turf!)

I grew up in a different part of the state, so I can only just pronounce Staunton.
I don't have anything clever to say, but if I did, it would go here.

Ashore - but not before some drifting toward the wrong country!
This is a well-designed one - I admire the work that goes into these.
