I actually solved this. Had the right path, just one wrong step tripping me up.
So since I personally solved it, rating it a 1 on the Kas 1-5 scale.

Ok I take it back. I turned my brain left and saw the answer just now.Joepickett wrote: Thu Feb 24, 2022 9:05 pmI can never solve a Gaffney meta is what it means. His brain goes left and mine goes right.Barney wrote: Thu Feb 24, 2022 8:58 pmWhat does this even mean?
Anyway
My solving partner says this is easy
BUT
I am not seeing it
So put me at the ship’s bar with Isaac, Bob
If I have him to myself won’t be the first time.
Discouraging, though, when all signs seem to be flashing GO.![]()
Ashore.

Ashore, and I feel what Matt hoped I'd feel when I solved the puzzle. But it's definitely not what I feel when I look at the news.

having a REALLY bad day. Can't solve either the NYT meta OR the Wordle. (Wordle - I've got the last 2 letters and can't even find a guess for the first three! Any hints out there?)

Since Matt Gaffney delayed the MGWCC coming out, I don't feel bad about this. Our Friday status will come out later this afternoon as I have been tied up this morning.
And for you in warm sunny climes, this was taken a few seconds ago. My front yard from my study. 48hours ago it was in the 60's and now this.
12 inches and counting

One nice thing about cats is you can always blame things on cats. And if they aren't responsible for this thing there are always other things they are responsible for so there's no defamation involved. And indirectly they are always responsible for everything anyway.Joe Ross wrote: Fri Feb 25, 2022 4:30 amwoozy wrote: Fri Feb 25, 2022 1:42 am I guess this is what I get for complaining about last weeks.
There must be something here...... I had many excuses for not getting to it in a timely manner (wife wanted to play bird game; cat walked on the keyboard and my puzzle was all Bs) but the truth is I'm just overlooking something.
With apologies, but I blame @Inca.

When I found this image on a search, the words "the dog ate my homework" were associated. I assume the cat was typing out its excuse for not having its work finished. I was disappointed that the image didn't show that.woozy wrote: Fri Feb 25, 2022 11:57 amOne nice thing about cats is you can always blame things on cats. Well, the grid was easy enough and I definitely see the basis for the meta mechanism, but.. I just don't see how to put things together [happily].
Hoping that another look after my coffee sets in will get me off the boat (although Isaac is great company in the meantime).

Paddled my way happily to shore, (my answer was confirmed by a muggle friend, just to make sure I wasn't deluding myself)!!! Very clever puzzle, as we have come to expect from Mr. Gaffney (who I hope feels better soon).
Thanks to muggles teaching me how to approach the metas, I think I am beginning to get the hang of it.
I'll be happy to give nudges to anyone who needs a bit of help.
