I'm going to say I'm ashore.

I have similar concerns to some others.

Solved but echoing the sentiments of others who were lukewarm on the solution. Fine mechanism however

Ashore, a bit bedraggled from my head slapping. I started with the right mechanism, but it didn't seem to be working so I went down various other rabbit holes. Once the Friday group brought me back to my starting point, suddenly I began to see what I had blatantly missed seeing before. This was definitely a "meta blindness" week. But at least I can enjoy watching the waves now with a pleasant sea breeze in my face.

ASHORE! Thanks for the help on the zoom call. Brothers are still in Europe and are probably asleep, so I will give them a nudge!

Solved and on the beach--still warm enough for beach weather in Texas.

Sheesh! Finally ashore. Thanks to the zoomers. Dumb answer, IMHO, but I guess it works.

I don’t know. I just logged on and at 6 pm on Friday, when there are only seven pages of comments, it makes me think this must be a challenging meta. And, that has been my experience this far, but comments suggest otherwise. I shall keep after it!

Ashore. I had help. Still testing Covid-positive; first test was on 10/8. How long does this last?

I think I'm ashore? I'm with y'all here--the mechanism worked, but I have utterly no idea what my answer has to do with the puzzle. I'm curious to see if the solution has some extra justification I'm missing.

Back from a week's vacation, filled out the grid, got the slightest of nudges from @BarbaraK and @ajk, and find myself on the shore without a clue why *this* is the right shore. I mean, the directions were clear, but why did they lead *here*? :?:

Hope we'll find out on Monday.

Well I'll be darned. I did not see it and then I did. Turns out I had been biting around the edges for a while, but then I saw something and tried it and it worked, and then another and tried it and it worked, after the third I said "this is no coincidence" and sure enough it wasn't. I figured what the last letter had to be but needed Mr. Google to confirm (though truthfully it could be nothing else). So count me ashore without hints!

I'll be curious to see how the answer I got actually fits with everything else, I mean it has to be but I cannot really see how it fits (though experience tells me it must).

OK, now I can go back to rewriting my own puzzles which are being tested and buffed by a VERY good bunch of testers. I'll never be as good as some but these guys help me be better than I really am by their input. There are some frighteningly clever people among the Muggles.
NUDGES!I am always willing to give nudges IF ASKED; metas should be about fun, not frustration. PM me what you have done so far, because often you are closer than you think, and I will try to help you move along.

I'm on the shore! The Zoom meeting helped me over the first roadblock where I had tunnel vision and I was able to solve while I was on the call. Puzzle Buddy Jane is still at sea but making her way to the beach. I'd like an Alaskan Amber, please.

Are you taking Paxlovid? My wife had C-19 twice and took Paxlovid both times. And both times she "rebounded" to test positive for quite a while. Hang in there. Hope you feel better soon.

On shore, agree with others on the lukewarm solution.

Finally on shore. This was one of those puzzles that I stared at for 24 hours without seeing anything, despite understanding the relevance of the title. Then I picked it up again after dinner and suddenly it all jumped out at me.
