Ashore! Fun and clever, but still didn’t seem like a gimme. Good start to a Friday.

Odd you should single me out on this one. My brother once lived in the same Boston neighborhood as the guy who played Archie. Oh, and it's Betty over Veronica (almost as easy as "Mary Ann over Ginger").ChrisKochmanski wrote: Thu Feb 03, 2022 6:35 pm Is Al Sisti reading? Al, 17a has a pretty nice bass line, don't you think? That would be Reggie, right?

Ashore. That garden path led somewhere after all. But BCD got his numbers switched up on reporting our solve- he’s the brains on this team.
I thought this was pretty tricky- but delightfully Mike-ish.

Well played. I got this cassette (along with other classics from Chicago, Weird Al Yankovic, Huey Lewis and the News, and Asia) one Xmas when I was 11 or 12.ZooAnimalsOnWheels wrote: Fri Feb 04, 2022 1:14 am I have reached the beach, just like the Fixx told me.

Ashore with 11 rubles. Ginger Ale please, I'm already dizzy.

Finished the grid yesterday but was lost in regard to the Meta. Noticed something this morning and persevered until I landed on the sandy beach. It has been many weeks since I found my way to shore without a nudge!

On shore! 🏖
What an impressive puzzle! Very much enjoyed it here in the frozen South. (You folks up north would laugh at us.

Not a single excuse for still being on the ship. No distracting blizzard, ice storm, flood, famine, pestilence. Simply not seeing anything.
Enjoy the beach, Muggles! At least I don't have to wait for Isaac!

Good Friday morning muggles
Neither rain, nor sleet, nor ice, nor snow (all of which we have had in the last 12 hours) shall keep the Cruise Director from his required meta solving
So far we have 7 on the ship and 111 on the shore. A tricky meta from Mike but once you get the process, it is a 100%'er.
And if you don't subscribe to the MGWCC, yesterday was Ada's first birthday so Matt posted this when he notified us that the MGWCC was going to be 90 minutes late (can I cover the Over?)

Do we get clues on this forum or just announce when we get the answer?

Ashore
I knew I was on the right path but still had a couple false starts before I was ashore. A nice challenge but thankfully not impossible.

Among a lot of very good ideas on how to attack metas in the FAQs - Community / Solving Resources, there is a topic - Guidance on Hints/Nudges - that covers how to receive one-on-one help (or "nudges") via Private Messages.
Best luck & looking forward to you joining this crowd.

We never post any clues, nudges, spoilers, etc here on the forum before the contest deadline. So if you don't want your solve to be spoiled, it should always be safe to come here and read the comments.
But a nice feature of the site is that it allows for private communications. So if you want help with a meta, be sure your settings allow you to receive private messages:
ucp.php?i=179
and that you will be notified when someone sends you a message
ucp.php?i=ucp_notifications&mode=notification_options
and then you can send a private message to someone who has solved and ask for help.
Some people here also like to meet over zoom to work together on metas. There's a group solve planned for this afternoon if you're interested in that.

If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.
(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

Yikes, this could be another weekend at the bar on boat for me. I'm not even seeing very many long clue seeds for the meta..
