I think I'm on shore! If so, this will be my first meta solve ever after many weeks of failed attempts. What should my inaugural cocktail be?

Lost at sea. I'm fairly sure I have the answer, but I can't figure out why. I keep banging my head against a particular part of the puzzle. Nudges most welcome!

EDIT: Got it thanks to a kind soul pointing out my error. Not submitting but glad to be done!

On shore! And happy that this one went fairly quickly. Spent most of the morning playing with our 2.5 year old granddaughter so I was hoping it might be a quick solve that I could figure out during her nap. We've got plans for making Play-Doh flowers later this afternoon (after having a great time earlier with her new giant bubble kit)!

We must be of the same vintage. That stands out a truly awful song, even amongst a great many expert competitors.
Ah, I for one celebrate the entire genre! :)

Now where’s my beer…
The joys of being an old punk rocker....the song that's been going through my head due to the solve is a fantastic, albeit terrifying, song about being mugged late at night on the London subway system. I have no idea what the rest of you are going on about...
One of my fave songs from one of my fave albums of one of my fave bands

Molson, please, 'cause the Habs are in the finals.
I have always wondered about the nickname “the Habs” for the Montreal team. Is it pronounced habs or abs? Shouldn’t it be “Les Habs” or even “Zabs”. Do French Canadians use Habs or do the just say Les Habitants?

today I feel like a cross between Lovey Howell and the Professor. That show could use an update.

Actually, there could be some similarities between this Board and Lifeboat- a great movie. I‘m not going to say WHOM I have in mind for the captain and the journalist...

On shore.
Have spent all week finding words made from middle letters of three-letter crossword puzzle entries.
Time to just let it go...

Grid was very easy, but I'm clueless about the meta. 🤷‍♂️

 ... I've never heard a French Canadian refer to the Habs as the Habs outside of the context of "Go Habs Go," which we even see on the tickers of city buses. More likely they would be referred to as "les Canadiens," so I guess it's an English thing?

It's usually pronounced "Habs," with the normal H sound, as also in House, though francophones sometimes elide the H, as, I suppose, would Cockneys. I would prefer your idea of "abs," but, sadly, I no longer have any.
For nudges, feel free to PM me. I won't have a clue how to help you, but you might shove me ashore.

In Boston, there are usually a few expletives associated with them no matter whether you say them in English or French. Kind of like Bucky **&%% Dent but who carries a grudge.

I'm on shore, but now the comments about almost getting pageanted have me concerned. Anyone who knows what this is about care to DM me?

Update: my fears have been put to rest
