Oh golly! On shore! I think! Either it’s as easy as it just was, or I am grossly off the mark. I think I’ll put some more time into this one, looking for a more obscure solution. I love MG’s way of using a grid as geo-terrain, so maybe this time he’s hidden something really well. Last week’s was a fun solve, a 100 percenter to me after trying for a couple of hours to make Times Square be the answer, embedded in the very center as a word square. But no. (-:

First we welcome our two newest muggles: Dan Kravitz on the WSJ page and RedtheRed9 here.

And we have 84 on the shore, very quickly, and Isaac is very lonely on the ship

On shore unless there are hidden tricks (which there always seem to be, so I’m slightly skeptical about my true whereabouts)!

Nice speedy swim to shore. Fun grid and big smiles while remembering 54 across performances. Cold beverage while catching Rise of Skywalker will be today's reward.

I think there's an explanation over in the Welcome Aboard or Acapulco Lounge area...

Amazing that two years later, we're all still jumpy.

Hidden in 3D wrote: Fri Jan 03, 2020 12:06 pm To submit or to torture myself until Sunday night looking for a PAGEANT?... Oh, what the heck, I'm sending in my answer and hoping the contest really is as easy as it seems. Like many others, I used the meta to complete the grid.

On a side note, while watching the YouTube video link that Kay posted, I was laughing loudly enough for my husband to hear me in his office upstairs. He came down and watched for a few seconds over my shoulder. I was about to explain why I was chortling when he said (after seeing the title), "Oh, Matt Gaffney!" and proceeded to head into the kitchen to make his lunch (probably rolling his eyes as he did so). Hey - I was impressed that he even recognized a constructor's name!

You can count me ashore, oh great CD Bob!

I know the title was 'Play Grounds', but does anyone remember (or have a link to) what the hint was?

On shore, but doing dry January, so two drinks for someone else!!!

I don’t understand how everyone thinks it is an easy meta. Took my husband and I the whole day.

I love the Santa Hat on the sailor!!! Did everyone have a good New Year’s Eve?!?

The "sailor" is Isaac from the TV show "The Love Boat". Isaac was the bartender on the ship and so muggles who don't get the answer and are spending time on the ship are with Isaac.

Play Grounds (Contest Crossword, Friday Dec. 29)
The hint was "a type of competition" which you can only find presently on the pdf. If you want to play the puzzle, the info icon gives you the answer!

And, P.S. to Joe, due to a late-in-life start, I just hit my 11-gallon milestone.

After several weeks out of the game, actually on a cruise ship somewhere between the Falklands & Montevideo. Don't want to go ashore but this first of the year was so easy I have to try. Predicting 1499/1500 right.
