A very enjoyable, and not too difficult, variety cryptic by Steve Mossberg. There are several things going on in this puzzle which makes it interesting to solve.1D was new to me so learning a new word was an added bonus. My only gripe, and it is a tiny one, is I wish these puzzles always came out on the same day of the week so I would be prepared for them. I know there is probably a schedule somewhere but I do better if I just expect certain things on certain days.

I can't find an explicit schedule but so far they've always come out on the 1st and 15th of each month.

That may be it, thanks! I am conditioned to days of the week though: MGWCC is always (almost always) Friday, MMMM is Tuesday, the WSJ meta is Thursday. The 1st and the 15th doesn't compute as well.
