Grid gave me a headache, though I think I have done it with at least one clue (4D) something I never heard of. I see the first step, for sure, but the next step still eludes me.

Likewise extinguished. Friday NYT grid, week 2 Gaffney meta. I definitely agree with the comment above that it's both easy to make a mistake on step two and easy to correct it.
The "State Farm Stadium" clue should definitely have ", on scoreboards" appended to the end of it. That really threw me off.

It's just that: "Underfunded" and "Short" are synonyms; terms for "doesn't have enough money"
