Got the answer, but the links to the answer checker and entry form are, for some reason, not working for me right now. I'll try again later.

Sorry - something went wrong with including the links in the email and none of them actually link to anything. The ones on the web page do work though:

Got it. Tricky grid, but straightforward meta.
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Not that it matters, but the form wouldn’t accept a 3-letter screen name. There’s also my slightly Arabic sounding Sulimeg.

Odd! I'll look at that.

Here's the updated leaderboard... Still 2.5 days to go, so plenty of time to give it a go if you haven't already or ask for a hint if you're stuck.

Congrats to winners Abide and benchen71!

ANSWER:

This one doesn't require a diagram. Each one of the theme entries:

BEARSBARGES
SPAINPINS
WEEDSWEDE
PASTORSORTA

Is a two-word phrase in which the longer word is an anagram of the shorter word, plus one letter. Taken in order, the extra letters spell GASP.

Thanks, @ricky! However, given that I live in Australia, I am happy for my prize to get reallocated.
