Well, seven apparently as a PM conversation with Mikey G revealed.

(I gracefully accept his acceptance of my first answer as an alternate but do think the intended answer is better ... and can't believe how long I missed it.)
That sounds like a challenge! I'm currently on #2...
I had several but sent in a first until that gets shot down.

It should be an interesting discussion tonight.

Okay. I am pretty sure that I am off the couch with my fourth submission to Mikey.

I think that all of my submissions had some merit, but Dr. Tom helped me find one that really tied it all together.

EDIT:

Submission confirmed. And oh yes! Thanks for the ear worm Mikey!

Nudge Wednesday

Note the revised prompt is "out of order" from the increasing blatancy of the other nudges, so reveal at your own peril (or reverse-peril, I guess).

"The answer to the meta is a two-word event illustrated five times in the grid."

Increasingly Blatant Nudges of Wow (yes, there's more than 1 - clicking one gets you to the next!)

What's the link between all of the themers? What's going on in each of them?

You likely see a word that seems common to all of the silly themers.

That word is never, ever together; per the title, it's always split up so that a part of it appears on opposite sides of the grid each time.

If the meta answer included SLINK or SPLIT or some variant thereof, I would've made a choice not to include it blatantly, either in the last themer or the title.

What's a synonym for the word (technically the brand name) that's appearing split up on the grid?

After much deliberation, I finally submitted an answer. No clue if it's correct. Based on all these posts, my first answer is likely wrong, but I just don't know what else it could be. Fingers crossed!

Its getting lonely here on the couch
I'm beginning to feel like a bit of a slouch
But that's OK as the puzzle's been fun
And I'll keep torturing Mikey with guesses til I'm done

Off the couch with an alternate acceptable answer. Now that I know mine is acceptable it gave me the real one.

Funny how that works. I submit _____ _____ and get the reply that it will be accepted and instantly the real answer jumps into my mind.

Friday Shoves (yes, there's more than 1 - clicking one gets you to the next!)

Note the word SLINKY (whose synonym we need) is not together. What's another way to describe that?

The phrase is in the form "ADJECTIVE NOUN," but the ADJECTIVE becomes a NOUN in the grid whereas the NOUN became a VERB (wow, that helps).

In other words, what verb (being used in the meta phrase as a noun but a verb as illustrated in the grid) could describe a situation in which you ruin something once whole by making it not whole anymore?

I like metas whose answers are seasonal.

I need a vacation.

MMM #100 - Let's Split

Solvers: 53, of which x were solo solves, x > 0.

(Intended) Answer: SPRING BREAK

Accepted Answers: SPRING AHEAD, SPRING FLING, SPRING FORWARD, and at least another two others that might make for good metas down the line! :o

Answers not accepted: Anything involving SLINK or SPLIT (since those were too direct based on what was provided in the title and the clues)

Image

There is always a risk with what I call "visual metas," one in which the grid itself presents a thematic picture in which, for instance, you don't mine the grid directly for letters. The first meta I ever made (before I knew this forum existed!) did something similar but with no indicators or a relevant title.

I thought of various titles for this one but liked the simple "Let's Split!" because, honestly, you might want to split town around spring break (or during any break, honestly). In my case, I'm vacationing to my bed (and sleeping in it).

Even though there was a menagerie of other acceptable answers, and we typically like metas to be definitive, I felt the idea was cute enough (and who doesn't love a slinky??) to go with it, and so I took the risk. I had another meta idea, which I might have to shelve for later on, so my lips are sealed on that one!

When I submitted my initial puzzle, the title was still "Let's Split," but before solving, @Al Sisti had a very solid suggestion:

Image

Unfortunately, that might have been too great of a hint.

As always, thanks for solving! My March/April Mikey G meta is live (@FrankieHeck is already in with the solve!), the MGWCC is a great one, and I know we have another fantastic MMM lined up for this Monday!

Winner of the drawing to be announced soon! As for now, I will enjoy - what else - my spring break!

Happy puzzling!

Mikey G

Off the couch... a little sagging from behind because, let's face it, sometimes the springs break!
