Hopelessly stuck at sea. Completed the crossword but struggling to find a clue. Anyone care to throw me a lifeboat nudge? :)

Ashore, thanks to second-hand zoom nudge from my meta-buddy EVJ. One of these days I’ll make the zoom session —-sounds like fun! Meanwhile I think I’ll have a scotch.

The basketball theme made me think back to the great Boston Celtics teams, and when we would wait and watch, with a 20 point lead in the fourth quarter, for Red Auerbach to light his cigar. And "High above courtside" Johnny Most, who was the biggest homer, call the games with his raspy voice. "And Havlicek steals the ball! Celtics win! He stole it!" is one of the greatest calls of all time.

Those were the days when you would put the game on TV, turn off the sound, and listen to the great home team radio announcers make the calls. There are still some great sportscasters, but none that hold our hearts the way Johnny, Curt Gowdy, and others did.

Posted earlier that I solved this puzzle very quickly, which might say something about how my mind works. Feel free to DM me for a nudge.

On shore (thanks Deanna). Just a wee hint and it was off to the races. I agree with the SAD description.

Ashore. Credit this one to the wife for the Aha! Moment. Now we can relax with a bit of Hennessey.

I’ve been lurking for 6 weeks or so, trying to figure out how this contest crossword works. I thought for sure I’d never get it. So excited to say, I finally got one 😂

Happy weekend everyone! I’m sure it will be at least another 6 weeks until I can crack another!!
Congratulations...and condolences! Now you're hooked!

On shore. Wine me!

Cute! Liked it.

Edit: Addendum... Solved with kids. Love "seeing" it before they do. They get to hear me laugh and say, "Oh yeah... that's it... Got it! Ha!" And they say, "What? WHAT?" And then son said it...

It's kind of a contest at this point. Who gets it first.

I’m with Isaac. I see something, and I am stuck on a basketball term that would fit, but have no way to confirm it.

My 6’ 6” husband was no help. He told me he only saw one basketball answer on the grid, and lost interest immediately. I guess I’m on my own.

Wait.... Solved the WSJ contest puzzle. Solved the MGWCC. So... what do I do with my weekend? Book? What's a "book"? Hobbies? I gave those up years ago for meta-puzzles. Oh, those guitars over there? Yeah, but I lost my callouses in 2021. Shovel snow? Nah, I'll just stay in. Still plenty of wine.

I'll figure it out.

Try the MMM, the MOAT, and the MEOW for this week.

Oh, trying to get me into the harder stuff? I'm wise to you, you pusher. Keep your evil drugs away from me. I refuse to get addicted to more of these.

Now... where's my wine? Oh, next to all those empty coffee cups.

I have been Zoom'ed to shore on a large raft with @Wendy Walker , @BarbaraK and @DrTom swimming very hard to keep the other 19 of us from being pulled out to sea by a large school of red herrings

Obviously not submitting this week :(

I'm still with Isaac. I'm not seeing much here. I know what I would LIKE the answer to be, but I think I need to give up on that rabbit hole.
