I have been loving the Advent wine calendar! But you are behind, Advent started November 28. Drink up!kamashdas wrote: Fri Dec 03, 2021 6:50 pm On shore. Was on the tip of my tongue for about an hour! Finally coaxed the answer out. Will have to go see what is day 3 in the "Advent Wine" box tonight.

On shore! We solved the grid Friday night but could not solve the meta before driving to a scout campout. The meta came to me when I awoke this morning.

Loved this puzzle. Thanks Matt.

"Make it a double Isaac!" he said, easing into his regular stool, which after the past 8 (10?) weeks of steady use had begun molding to his frame. And as he sipped his drink, through narrowed eyes he watched the people cavorting on the shore, pondering over and over, the lost meaning that so many had easily gotten.

Greetings from West Palm Beach! (I'm traveling again, so just getting to the puzzle this morning.) I'm on shore after one of the most satisfying "Aha!" moments in many a week. Wonderfully clever, Matt!

Got the answer before the total mechanism, but now looking for an empty seat spot on the beach. A rare “double” for me (WSJ and MGWCC); that said, it IS a week one. :-/

Good Saturday morning muggles
One thing that is great about this couple of weeks is that we have more new muggles. This week we welcome lakeplacidskater (shades of 1980?), Onaquest, Ckel313, chankins, and drbockel2. Great to have more muggles
And what I love about reading all the comments to find who is on the ship or the shore are all the unrelated but humorous comments. This week we have the punsters out in force and for those of us who remember before interstates, the Burma Shave signs.
So far we have 13 on the ship and 148 on the shore.

Ashore! Two in a row. Knew the answer before the complete solve, but very satisfying AHA moment. Love it! Barkeep, think I'll have the same as last week; B&T with Harp here!
Have a great weekend everyone!

Spent quite a while at the ship's bar, but upon trying again this morning I made it quickly to shore.
A quirky but enjoyable puzzle.

From the WSJ Wine Club by chance? So far we're three for three on liking what came out of the one I got for my wife as an early gift. At least I've enjoyed the sips she shared with me.kamashdas wrote: Fri Dec 03, 2021 6:50 pm On shore. Was on the tip of my tongue for about an hour! Finally coaxed the answer out. Got it! Struggled more than last week going down a few blind alleys but the light bulb went on during my third run at it. Nice to be ashore!

Definitely a forehead slap answer. We had all of it lined up in front of us and just couldn't close the deal. OUCH. If only slapping our foreheads would always joggle the answer loose!
Anyway, safely on shore and ready to party.

My initial post was overly vague since I was just lazily quoting a prior one, but you can add me to the shore count.Bob cruise director wrote: Sat Dec 04, 2021 12:11 pm So far we have 13 on the ship and 148 on the shore.

Check out this very cool project by many of your favorite muggles to raise money to fight cancer. You get a fun puzzle bundle and good causes get $. Win-win: Crosswords for Cancer

I posted a question a couple of weeks ago, and saw others post the same question. But I never saw an answer. So I'll try again, as I'm quite curious...
What happened to the "Rate the difficulty of the meta" option?
I keep wondering whether I missed a rancorous discussion which was resolved by a pact to "Let us never speak of this again." Which would explain the forum's silence on the matter. Perhaps someone used one too many Oxford comma during the debate?
("There, there, poor Oxford comma. I still like you. Here, let me tell you a story about a party I had where I invited two strippers, Hitler and Stalin....")
