Would someone pass me a piece of Humble Pie? And, while you're at it, could you top it with a dollop of nudges, please? I'm starving......

Quite cheeky meta Matt Gaffney. Onshore with 100% certainty on submitted answer. El Dorado rum and a cuban cigar tonite.

I have a solid mechanism but there appears to be another step. I have an answer for it but am not 100% convinced.

Dang I HATE getting to the beach so late on a weekend when EVERYONE is solving but me. No spots left to put the blanket, beach bar down to house brand liquor and they have nothing left but Iron City beer. Still it is better than not getting here at all, which is what it looked like earlier.

Got up this morning, looked and saw something, then saw something else and it was "No way that is unintentional" (yes I know, famous last words). Still after 6 of those I could infer the answer and though I am not 100% confident and satisfied I'm close enough to claim shoredom.

So Cruise Director count me with the masses! I'm delighted and surprised to be here. How surprised you ask, well let me put it this way:

griswold gif.gif
NUDGES!I am always willing to give nudges where needed; metas should be about fun, not frustration. Send me what you have done so far because often you are closer than you think!

ATTENTION SAFARI USERS:

A muggle is requesting help with working the WSJ online form using Safari: Problems with WSJ Crossword on Safari

If you might be able to help, please read & reply.
I usually use Safari but gave up for the WSJ crosswords as my work would get lost.
I am using Firefox on a Mac for these puzzles and had trouble this week. Would type in some letters and they would go away or go to some other square.
Trying again and again got it. Anyone else have a problem?
Figured it must be the computer or something as pen and pencil solvers would not have the problem.
I think I am about halfway to the beach.
Hi, Richard

I was having the exact same problem with Safari, so I contacted WSJ and received this reply:

On shore, 95% certainty. I'm confident in the mechanism but like others here I needed to back solve because my original choices weren't all correct.

I think it's negroni weather.

Incidentally, did anyone else have trouble with the lower right. I never heard of the songs or albums or actors or directors, all of which were solved (hopefully) by crosses.

Solved and submitted. I spent two days thinking the title was a) personally directed at me and b) accurate. But today, on my fourth or fifth attempt, I finally broke through. Great puzzle!
