Quickly on shore again! I enjoy the calculator and slide ruler pics. I am old enough to have used a slide ruler in school.

Marion and I are joining all in the sand..........GET THE LOBBYING GOING - IT'S TIME FOR MORE THAN ONE MUG!!
I am sure the WSJ could afford more than one........should ba allocated based on the number of correct submissions - i.e. 1/500 correct or some ratio like that.

Reminds me of this eccentric drafting teacher I had in HS. Yes the one for students allegedly gifted (if that word is still allowed) in math and science (I got in by the seat of my hypotenuse).
He showed us a 12 inch ruler on the first day and instructed with grave solemnity that if you went to the 6” line there would be two equal segments on each side.
I must have given him a look that betrayed that I thought, “this guy must be on something” (thank you, Captain Obvious wasn’t an expression known to me at the time). So he said, “does that surprise you?” And thus continued my descent into alienation. Continued by everything I read in HS, including Bernard Malamud of all authors. Crazy how they make high schoolers read about alienation, when we could probably teach the subject.

I have this fantasy that I will commission a meta themed coffee cup from Tiffany’s, winning admiration and $49.95 from all. However, rules are rules and I won’t sully the sanctity of this noble pursuit with low mindedness even more than I already have. It’s a high bar for a reason. We can’t all win. Don't know why you all act like slide rules are obsolete. Here's photographic evidence that they will be used on starships.

Anyone else remember this?MikeM000 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 17, 2021 10:31 amWhen I was a small child in the mid 70s my dad got an employee deal on a Rockwell scientific calculator. My older brother's HS math teacher was *woah* and I think my dad hooked him up with one as well. I would look at the things on and above the buttons and try to figure out what they did when I pressed them. (By the time I actually knew, Rockwell was way out of the calculator business; I had one from Texas Instruments that was solar powered.)
Oh hey...20 bucks for one on eBay right now!

They got big green numbers and little rubber feet."
For nudges, feel free to PM me. I won't have a clue how to help you, but you might shove me ashore.

Ashore and perky,
Chips, dips, beer, nuts and jerky.
Beach togs quite quirky!
