For Joy to the World? (8/23)
It doesn't really matter for the first 4 clues -- just solve as normal. The fifth instance ties it all together.
For today's, (9/1) Rhythm Section, it's essentially the same sort of thing.
In both cases, the title of the puzzle then makes a great deal of sense!

I'm sorry, I'm still not sure I follow. The answers to the four asterisks are: facepalm, placemat, daysinn, mealworm. Are we meant to do something more with these (e.g., unscramble)? Or if the words are related to the title, I'm not seeing how.

Joy to the Word (no L)
This was a Monday puzzle, so it's not a contest puzzle and doesn't have a meta puzzle (puzzle within the puzzle) to solve.
For what the four asterisked answers have in common, see the latter half of 63A, "what the first half of the starred answers can all do."

So for example, a place or days can get happy?hoover wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 8:30 pm Joy to the Word (no L)

Happy face
Happy place
Happy days
Happy meal
A bit strange wording for the revealer, but kind of works I guess. Add "joy" to the first "word".

Thank you, that makes it a bit clearer.
