"Something From Nothing"
Good morning Muggles, and welcome to Muggle Meta Monday!
This week’s meta is called “Something From Nothing.” Since my last puzzle was less than satisfying for some people, I’d like to thank Brian and Peter for letting me get right back on the horse. As for a rating, for seasoned Muggles, it’s probably a good week 1; for Muggles: The Next Generation, possibly a Week 2. Please PM me your solution by 10 PM on Saturday, and as has become the custom, I’ll post a couple snapshots of a leaderboard during the week. Feel free to PM me for nudges, but try to stick with it for a couple days first. If nothing else, there’s always Nudge Wednesday.
One correct solver will be chosen at random and will receive an item of his/her choice from my swag bag (a Blarney Rebel Band CD, a Utica Club keepsake, or a $15 donation to a charity of your choice).

The answer to this meta is a six-letter word. Good luck!

Submitted. Interesting grid! We are off the settee. I believe there’s an entry @DrTom might have an opinion on several days from now.

Off the couch and singing a happy song...
"Nothin' from nothin' leaves nothin'...You gotta have somethin' if you wanna be with me...
I'm not tryin' to be your hero...'Cause that zero is too cold for me (Brr)...
I'm not tryin' to be your highness...'Cause that minus is too low to see, yeah..." (Billy Preston)

Submitted. Another masterful construction!
I don't have anything clever to say, but if I did, it would go here.

Really fun one!

Just because it's intimidating, is no reason to be intimidated.

Off the couch!
Thank you, Al, for 16a. Though poor Lynne -- now she'll have to listen to me quoting Blazing Saddles lines all day.
Do you know that Madeleine Kahn was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for playing Lily von Schtupp? True! And well deserved!
Sadly, though, this master thespian was prescient in understanding the risk to his own chances for the the Best Supporting Actor award:

Nothing like a bike ride....in a thunderstorm....to help focus on the puzzle and finally get the solution.

We think we're off the couch. Awaiting confirmation. Our answer, if wrong, is certainly defensible. Nice puzzle!
