Back to School (A Mikey Meta)
PUZ and PDF can be found at:
Pun of a Kind Website
Today's puzzle has a Level of 2 of 5, though I'm not sure how official my rankings are. To quote the title of my puzzle to my students, "BACK TO SCHOOL, KIDS!" Shout-out to Ajay for test-solving this under such short notice!
Good luck!!
Mikey G
The answer to the meta is a 5-letter word.
Heads up, we have parentheses!

I'm Back to School!
I love how Mikey's grids make me smile, and for some reason, the occasional "young and with it people" clues and entries that I often have to Google don't even make me feel dumb!

Submitted an answer.
And explained via comments why I thought this was harder than the previous puzzle.

Fun puzzle Mikey! Also, thank you for the gift for last month's solve. On a teacher's salary that is way too generous.

Had to re-visit once or twice, but the cat-zebra has been caged.
The site is just a web page, a meeting place, a clubhouse - it's the group that's special.

Leaderboard remains at lucky 13 - we'll see if we can get a few more of you muggles cracking this one by Saturday!
(I just saw the cat-zebra reference, Abide, haha - nice!)

Hey, Guys! Mikey needs us! (Tough being "below the fold.")
Just want to say that I passed the link for this one on to my daughter who has just started doing a few metas pretty successfully.
She doesn't do any forum/leaderboard etc. stuff (yet! ) but she did solve after just a bit of redirection from me and liked it.
She did say, however, that she has a bone to pick with Mikey because of his inclusion of something in one of the themers! (She was mostly joking.)
Go Bobcats!

July Meta - Results
Answer: TEACH
Correct answers: 13
Winner!: hoover - congrats!!
We literally went back to school on this one, as each longer entry had five schools scattered throughout the entries, written backward
DRAWFORTH = HOWARD
CITYBLOCK = COLBY
INAROUNDABOUTWAY = AUBURN (is that your daughter's bone to pick? Hahaha
NOVELIDEA = ELON
HELPMEOUT = TEMPLE
The first letters of the theme entries are HCAET, which - of course - spelled backward is "TEACH," which is what I will once again do beginning this upcoming week!
Hoover, the winner, mused on why I included those five schools. The short answer: They were the only ones that worked, hahaha. I went through about thirty short colleges or so and brainstormed; I was going to do STUDY, but "U" was one of the letters that had virtually no schools that I could see.
This puzzle also made Abide crave some HAM JAMBALAYA (7). I am what I eat! (I'm full of beans.)
Even with the Gaffney and the MMM I haven't tackled yet and the Emma Oxford puzzle that looks cool, I'm still working on a bonus (!) meta that I'll be posting soon, so stay tuned for that!
Happy puzzling!

No, but I think that was the one most of us had the hardest time with. I actually back solved for it after getting T - E - __ - C - H.
Her issue was rival school Colby making an appearance.
(Enlarged teeny tiny print from above reads "Go Bobcats!" - Bates)

Oh hey! Thanks, I didn't know there were prizes! I was just doing these for the Internet points.
