Then I tried the MGWCC, where I initially got nowhere. Then while starting to brush my teeth I got a sudden flash of insight that turned out to be the key to solving the MGWCC. Then while finishing my teeth I got a second flash of insight that turned out to be the key to solving this one. It turned out that I had the right idea all along, I was just applying it in the wrong way. Now I can finish my vacation with a lighter heart.....
And cleaner teef.

Can't see such references without googling. 7.1 miles from Germantown Cricket Club. :-)

And only 2.5 miles from one of my favorite childhood memories - that zoo.
I had fond memories of the zoo as a kid, using the red elephant key we had to activate the talking boxes. Then I had kids, became a member, and the memories became less fond as I struggled to find parking, drag the kids in and keep track of them, and eat the food made more for kids than adults. Though having the Lorikeets sit on your head and arms while feeding them was a lot of fun for both adults and kids.

I also spent many years riding the train to work from the burbs on a line that goes over the zoo. That made me a little sad, because you can see how limited the space is for all the animals. But it is the oldest zoo in the U.S., and quite a good one in many respects. Plus, it's surprisingly close to center city. When I go for a 5-mile run from Rittenhouse, I usually turn around at the Girard Bridge, just across the river from the zoo.

I have not thought of that elephant key for YEARS! We had one, too!
Good luck, fellow Muggles!

Grumble. I guess I need to ask for a nudge. *NOT* a hint; a nudge. And the most subtle and indirect and gentle of nudges.
So I just plain couldn't get my meta based on "Up the Down Staircase" to work.

My challenge it to constructors is to make a meta where the meta, theme or metanism is "Up the Down Staircase".

Couldn't see it, couldn't see it, couldn't see it...had a guess, tried to back-solve ...SAW IT! Yea, now I'm only Gaffney Baffled x 1.

ASHORE!
NUDGES!I am always willing to give nudges where needed; metas should be about fun, not frustration. Send me what you have done so far because often you are closer than you think!

I'm looking forward to sharing the Mother Of All Rabbit-Holes on Monday...proof of my mutant ability to seriously overcomplicate these things...heh.

Finished grid but stuck with Isaac in a hambone dance competition. May have to ask my Dutch neighbor if he has some some extra eel for me to smoke because as of now I cannot go past step 1 with any certainty

Good Saturday morning muggles

Another challenge by the nefarious Mr. Gaffney. Easy for some, impossible for others.

And welcome to our newest muggle - Lmoire

I had to laugh at the line that includes 50A, 53A and 56A. Change the I to an A and you probably get a sigh of relief from Matt

So far we have 13 on the ship and 115 on the shore.

The ship's contingent is

Was it related to googlage? We were thrown off by same. . .
Well one trail was somewhat, though that one was at least related to the eventual solution. The other came completely out of my own head and was common knowledge!
The other Wendy.

Onshore! I looked at it for a day and then it jumped out at me. Think I'll celebrate by beating the heat with a cold brew.

ok, I’ve finally had a chance to settle in with my notes and coffee and check this out.

I see things and now that I’m a gd expert (5th month lol), I’m going to just keep looking for the mechanism until I get it.

I know I know - you’ve heard that before!!

Just could not see it on my own. Won’t submit.
Some weeks are like that. Cold Hefeweizen please.

A KAS 2 for sure - DUH

Once again it took two more than capable women to bail me out.

I hope that the tiki lounge has a good supply of beer for the week as I definitely won't be drinking from a mug.
