I’m ashore. I have not read the other comments yet, so not sure what others thought. But I loved this puzzle.

Pageantphobia: The unreasonable fear of thinking you have the wrong meta answer either because 1) It came too easy; 2) Because you don't trust the link between the puzzle's title/meta hint/theme answers/meta answer.

My advice is, "Don't worry". There hasn't been a pageant since the original where people didn't fully make the connection to the title, and only connected the themed answers.
If I'm around, I am willing to join the Muggle Zoom room at other times to lend a hand to those in need.

Solved and on shore… I got the grid on Thursday but busy with golf etc to solve meta. I knew the mechanism, but couldn’t get next step. No printer but I really did not need it. During the night, I didn’t sleep well not in my own bed when BAM! Inspiration hit…I knew I had half. So while hubby drove Home today I got out my scratchpad…and got it! The brain is a marvelous organ..loved it!

Just got a chance to look at the puzzle. Got the grid completed fairly quickly and with more ease than usual. Scratching my head at the moment...8 letter word? Not 6? Need to work out a few things.

On shore now. Got a little nudge from boharr, but I swear I did like almost a lot of it basically totally on my own

I’m with Isaac…crazy work-week and my husband scheduled a crazy weekend for us (to get me “out of the house”), so I may not finish this week. I’m hoping for rain.

Is it a faux pas to bring a crossword (or two) to a baseball game?

Update: my fears have been put to rest
Google's been no help with this concept of "getting pageanted".

BTW, neither the little wifey nor I had any particular troubles with the grid, and the meta path *seems* obvious, but we ain't figgered out how that becomes/relates to an eight letter word - even with this music hint floating around. Bet the *next* time this mechanism pops up we won't have near the challenge. :-)

Coincidentally, I was curious enough earlier today to look it up, and found it here in the FAQs:

Keeping Isaac company right now. I see a lot of possible things that might be paths to the answer, but none of them is leading me anywhere, at least so far. Perhaps enlightenment will come in the morning.

Because the votes don't update unless you do a hard refresh: Ctrl+F5 or Shift+F5 or something similar. Now you see the trouble with posting on Page 1. 😉

Well, hey. I did do that hard refresh a couple of times in a couple of different ways and it was still showing 3, but now that I've had dinner it's saying 36. Maybe people got nudged, maybe my cookies timed out. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hopefully the booze washes away the horrible song from my teen years that solving put in my head.
