On the board. At first I thought I'd nailed it. Then I had garbage. Then I saw some stuff I didn't see at first. Then I quickly solved it. If you've solved, you'll probably get what I mean.
Happy to give nudges. If you notice I've solved, please tell me about avenues you've explored so I can nudge you in the right direction and not off a cliff.

Only had to Google one thing for the grid. Saw nothing metalike at first, then saw something that made us jump to a wrong conclusion. But after more poking the real answer showed itself.
The mega however continues to elude.

Thanks, Meg, and I missed you guys, too! Not much happened at the meeting but there WAS a nice little reception -- with cake and cider! -- for a supervisor who is retiring.Meg wrote: โTue May 04, 2021 9:33 pmWe missed you at the Zoom!Wendy Walker wrote: โTue May 04, 2021 9:05 pm Solved while I was at the monthly township supervisors' meeting!

Did you mean to post in the WSJ forum. Not many scary digits in parens in PM's puzzle this week.

As usual, I tried to make it more difficult than it was. This was my first MMMM and I'm happy to have made it to the leaderboard.

I know I'm making this puzzle more difficult than it is. I've tried everything that's obvious to me and a few things which were certainly too complicated.
I wish there were some digits in parentheses so that I would know where to start.
