OK you guys, you forced me to spend the last 18 minutes and 15 seconds reliving the worst crime in Southbridge MA
I am not a kid but I had no idea what this was from. Mr. G helped me out here -- a very weird song indeed, but funny.

He’s often a crossword grid entry. Especially, in the NYT.

I’ve joined the fine group at Isaac’s bar, ready for a mimosa for the meta search. I’ll try to not over think it, as others have suggested.

Alice’s Restaurant is still very popular at our house. Many years ago a little old lady named Alice brought us a lovely stray Maine Coon cat because she couldn’t afford to feed HIM. As usual, we named him after his owner. Best cat we’ve ever had. For 15 years his food bowl was, of course, located in Alice’s Restaurant.
Delighted it came up in this conversation.

We just love it! Lots of radio stations still play it every year on Thanksgiving and Arlo took it back on tour for the 50th anniversary. That being such a success, he and the family did a "redux" the following year! By coincidence, we stayed at the same hotel when we attended the first 50th and bumped into him when he came down to fetch coffee for the whole group!

Ashore....I think! A clever puzzle and perhaps typical of Matt's offerings early in the month.

That's Stockbridge. And one of my friends from high school claims it was his uncle that phoned the police to report the crime...

Ugh, green flannel. Brings back irritating memories of my short-lived career as a camping model.

I knew that Southbridge (mind stuck on Southboro) sounded wrong as I was visualizing the center of the state - senior moment. Thanks for the correction. I am sure that a lot of people claim a connection to the crime and the song.

"the mug"? You mean to say that this bastion of capitalism is giving away *one* coffee mug as a reward? I would expect an iPad at least. You'd probably wind up with a better prize at church bingo. Just sayin

I just decided to come back and take a look at the puzzle again and....nothing.
I'm feeling pretty dumb right now seeing how many are saying this was pretty simple.
I see absolutely nothing.
Maybe I'm not really looking too hard since food chains are definitely not something I know anything about and when that happens it puts a damper on my meta-mojo.

I'm there with ya. I got nothing. Thought I could make this the third week in a row.

That's fabulous! We love Arlo. My husband saw him perform that song on Thanksgiving in MA in the late 80s--at the time, he didn't usually do that one. I saw him in concert at Ravinia (I think, somewhere in IL anyway) the summer of '89, no Alice but it was a great show.

Ok, I've learned that if I dump trash illegally, I better not have any letters addressed to me in there! These days with gps, dashcams and ring, I'd probably be found out within minutes, though. No 8x10 glossies needed.

So is this traditionally a Thanksgiving song, like "Grandma got run over by a reindeer" is for Christmas? The turkey needs something to dance to.
