The answer to this week's meta is a poet.

I hope you all have color printers for this one
In keeping with tradition I will post a leaderboard throughout the week and some nudges on Wednesday.
In addition, I am excited to announce a new section of the forum called Madhatter's Enigma on Wednesdays (MEOW)!
These are challenging weekly metas constructed by yours truly. Puzzles are posted on Wednesdays and solutions are posted Tuesdays. I just want to express my thanks to our mutual overlord Brian Mac for creating the subforum, and I hope it will be a success!
Best of luck,
Josh

I had no trouble either, whizzed right through it. Specifically I considered the gravity of the situation and assigned it a value between 1.005 and 1.03. Reading the posts it appears urine good company.
You were right Joe, too much of a lob to resist trying to return.

After enjoying this meta I found Madhatter's first two. I just finished Summer Activity and thoroughly enjoyed it and am proud to say solve it without using any hints. I highly recommend it to those who haven't tried it already.

Solved! I did the grid last night -- my gray squares were very dark and I had to use logic to figure out the square numbers -- but didn't get the meta until this morning. I concur; impressive construction!

Off the couch! I made it more difficult for myself by only looking at the .puz and completely forgetting that there was supposed to be color until I checked back here today :-)

Finally got after the nudges. That was going to be my guess, but didn't see the justification until the third nudge. Impressive idea and construction. Great puzzle.

I am embarrassed that I needed the nudges. They didn't tell me what I didn't already know, yet I don't think I would have solved without them. Yeah, I don't understand that, either. 4O8!
This was a very well-crafted puzzle! Looking forward to more.

Got it thanks to the 3d nudge but, like Lisa, this was going to be my guess, too. Very nice puzzle, Joshua; thank you!
Good luck, fellow Muggles!

Madhatter, I don't see my name on the board, but ----

It was from the years I was living in Israel and setting up various accounts (over time).
I was living at Kibbutz [M]aale Ha[chamisha], aka "Hill of the 5"
Plus my nickname
Made it unique and unclaimed, so I could have the same name on any site.

Thanks. When we migrated from the WSJ comments page to the blog and started to diversify, I had a problem with how to count muggles. When we were on the WSJ site, the only option was to count the people who had claimed that they were on the ship or the shore at least once. Now there are a lot of people who have an account and are active on other metas but have never commented that they were on the ship or shore.m5rammy wrote: ↑Wed Dec 16, 2020 4:22 pmHi, I'm part of the "and others"Bob cruise director wrote: ↑Wed Dec 16, 2020 12:55 pm I am curious about a lot of the names and numbers after the names.

As far as the "off the couch" here is the background. In the Welcome Aboard, we explain the background of being on the ship and lost at sea (not getting the meta) and on the shore (getting the meta). When we started doing the Monday metas, someone (not sure who) came up with the idea that if you did not get the meta, you must be sitting on the couch working on it so that when you got it, you are then off the couch.
Anyway, welcome and we hope to see you commenting on the Friday contests.
I assume that from your comment, you are not living in Israel currently. Wherever you live, we are happy to have you here.
