"Missing in Action"

Good morning Muggles, and welcome to Muggle Meta Monday!

This week’s puzzle is called “Missing in Action,” probably around a Week 1.75 rating. Please PM me your solution by 4 PM on Sunday, and as has become our custom, I’ll post a couple snapshots of a leaderboard during the week. Feel free to PM me for nudges, but try to stick with it for a couple days first. If nothing else, Nudge Wednesday occurs on… uh, Wednesday this week.

On Sunday, I will draw a name at random from the pool of solvers, and the winner will get his/her choice of a) a Utica Club keepsake, or b) an unsullied copy of one of the books in Peter Gordon’s “____ingly Hard Crosswords” series, autographed by Peter himself!

The answer to this meta is someone who dropped out of sight. Good luck!

Wow! Amazing and fun meta, Al!

And boy my brain needed a win - I'm still battling MGWCC week 3.

It's been said elsewhere, but all you wonderful and smart muggles are one of the things I am thankful for this season.

Awaiting confirmation from the source. Meanwhile, I'm nominating 17A and 47D for the Clue Hall of Fame. (Too bad you can't copyright a clue.)

Off the couch!

I start smiling as soon as I see it's an Al puzzle because I know there'll be some terrific clues.

Thanks.... credit where credit is due, Peter Abide suggested 17A. 47D is mine. And if clues could be copyrighted, I wouldn't have been able to use 38D, which I loved. Theft is the sincerest form of flattery, right?

The mechanism and punchline are stellar here-- well done Alex!
