Do you subscribe to AV Club swords? I’m working on Francis Heaney cryptic #3.

I haven’t as yet. I’ve been such a HEX fan that I’ve been slow to branch out. I use the weekly ones from the National Post as training for their more devilish monthly ones in the WSJ. The British cryptics I’ve seen are just too obscure for me.
I’ll look into the AV Club, though. Thanks much, Meg.

I’ve noticed that non-HEX cryptics are much harder for me to grasp. I've always considered it a character weakness that I am hesitant to try others. The British are impossible, but I think that may have more to do with unfamiliar idioms. NYT has cryptics by other authors, which I occasionally do. But HEX, especially the variety cryptics, are the best!
