I had used an incorrect letter in the grid and after correcting it I think I am now ashore but I think my previous solution made more sense.
I'm not a golfer so I did a search after solving and now I understand the answer.

Busy weekend marking final exams...wasn't able to get to the puzzle until today. But thankfully had no issues. Have joined the crowd on shore. Gin and tonic for me!

Ashore! This was a fun one.
Just got back from an eventful sail. As we were about to leave the dock my phone slipped out of my pocket and into the water. My husband secured the boat and waded into the cold water after it, dove down and came up with it in his hand.
Happy Easter, everyone!

And,...? Does the phone still work?
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

So far at least three people have had that same letter incorrect. You are in good company!

DON’T QUIT! Read Bagger Vance, read Hogan’s story, find a time when it’s faster, play 9. Hit it!

Hidden in 3D wrote: Sat Apr 19, 2025 2:21 pm I arrived ON THE SHORE early this morning and couldn't wait to tell Mr. Hidden about this meta since he is an avid golfer. I was prepared for his usual eye-rolling as I showed him the metanism, but instead he was quite interested and said something I'd never heard come from his lips since I started trying to solve the WSJ Crossword Contests back in 2019: "That's a good one!" And he actually said it several times with real (not feigned) enthusiasm!
Now, he’s hooked. Are you going to cooperate or compete?

Ashore. Just got back from a cruise this afternoon - No, not the Love Boat - so I didn't start until late this afternoon. My better half had something to do, so I ended up doing both the crossword and meta by myself. And then I almost forgot to post. Even after a week of freely flowing booze, I'll have that Black Russian now.

Holy cow, I’m on the shore. I started 20 minutes ago, having been otherwise busy for the past week. Nice puzzle.

Wait, what? Hahaha.

That's what I thought it was from the start! (And submitted.)

I later thought because 1-Across was the only bird in the grid (other than EAGLES, unless I missed some), and its clue had a blank ("hole") in it, that some were implying HOLE-IN-ONE, which is why I slapped myself. But these feathered friends were the answer all along?

After all that, I'm feeling beak.

Less cross words, more crosswords.

I also thought "albatross" might be an answer or "breaking par" because of the space between "pars".

22A made me chuckle as a nice little Latin confirmation.
