"Apt Acronyms" by benchen71

Can you storm the castle by getting across the MOAT? A weekly meta crossword constructed by forum member Ben (aka benchen71). These metas range from relatively easy to more challenging, depending on how many Australianisms he puts in them! Puzzles are posted in a new thread every Tuesday, with nudges appearing on Saturdays, and the solution coming out on Mondays. (At least, that's the plan. Given he lives in Australia, and they are so far ahead of the US time-zone-wise, things may get posted early!)

FINALLY! I needed nudge #2 to assure me I was not being distracted intentionally and then with a little concentration I saw the path to the Annoyingly Nebulous Secretive Words Evidencing Reveal :)

Thanks for the challenge Ben
NUDGES!I am always willing to give nudges IF ASKED; metas should be about fun, not frustration. PM me what you have done so far, because often you are closer than you think, and I will try to help you move along.

:crossed_swords: :rabbit: :european_castle: STC. I was sorta kinda on the right track before the nudges... but not in exactly the right way. Nudged onto the rails and over the MOAT. Thanks, Ben!

That's Amazing! :D
Check out "The MOAT Mini Pack of Marching Bands" here. US$5 gets you 7 Marching Bands which, hard enough on their own, now contain metas too. And once again there's a mega-meta! :D

I met a couple of thieving highwaymen who stole my map to the castle, and then my donkey had a flat tire, and then I had to stop for lunch, and then, well, I had to use all of the nudges and Mechapuzzle and finally realized I was misinterpreting nudge #3, so here I am, late and bedraggled. Did I miss all the fun? Does the princess have room on her dance card for one more jitterbug?
I don't have anything clever to say, but if I did, it would go here.

Here's the solution to "Apt Acronyms":

Apt Acronyms (solution).png

Every so often a tricky-to-clue unusual word/acronym/initialism finds its way into the fill of a grid I'm constructing. To make it as easy as possible for solvers I have often clued these as "Apt acronym for..." where the entry can be directly read off the first letters of the parts of the acronym. Last night, just before dropping off to sleep, I thought, "There's a meta idea in there somewhere." But that night I dreamt that this idea was the mechanism of someone else's meta puzzle, and I remember being disappointed that I wouldn't be able to use it. When I woke up I was very pleased to discover that it had all been a dream after all, so I was free to construct a meta along those lines, and this was the result. Hope you enjoyed it. :D
