Thoughts of a New Meta

#1

Post by clonefitz »

Posting words and video to "Thoughts of a New Meta" below. I hope this is an appropriate space to do this.

(DISCLAIMER: No Mike Shenks were actually cursed during the creation of this song.)

Thoughts of a New Meta (Tell Me)

Now Thursday night you’re soon off to bed
With thoughts of a new meta in your head, hey hey hey
Relax with Isaac, he’ll fix you a drink
While you sit there and curse Mike Shenk, hey hey hey
Since Friday comes, you still feel that gloom
You listen for ideas on the Muggles Zoom, hey hey hey
Hey, hey, hey

But tell me, are the themers across or down?
Did you solve it on the internet, or did you solve on paper
By yourself or with help from a neighbor?
And tell me, do you see any clues with stars?
Or any answers with hidden cars, that grid has entries
that have you looking for your Thesaurus.

You should have ignored state abbreviations
They led you astray and kept you off of page one, hey, hey hey
There’s no aha moment in a rabbit hole
Those red herrings will take their toll, hey, hey hey
Will something fit into those black squares?
I suggest that you start thinking about
Cinema, music notes, the Presidents
The periodic table, holidays or verb tense

But tell me, will a nudge get you to the beach?
Did a spoiler get redacted that might have helped you on your way
The puzzles’ very Gaffney-esque today
And tell me, did a rebus cross your mind?
Parsing words can do the trick some time, and did you misread
hints or fail to see some nuance there?

You could examine it for trig, rhymes, repetition
Roman numerals, a synonym or two
Anagrams or palindromes,
(Just don’t get pageanted) there’s maps, World Series champs,
word ladders, punctuation
phonetics, pig Latin, initials or anatomy

But tell me, are there numbers in parenthesis?
Did you find the clue order to be in a state of disarray
You might make XWordRabbit’s day
And tell me, has the title got you stumped?
Others may think that it was easy but they just won’t say it
‘Cause the forum’s well moderated
And tell me, did you cross out every other vowel?
Before you throw in that towel, you should try to
use that metanism one more time

Na-na, na-na, na-na
Na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na

And will you ever get named
by MikeMillerWSJ?

Na-na, na-na, na-na
Na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na

Or never win that trophy mug,
Win that trophy mug?

Na-na, na-na, na-na
Na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na

And are you already looking forward to next week?

Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me) as written and performed by Train

Now that she's back in the atmosphere
With drops of Jupiter in her hair, hey hey hey
She acts like summer and walks like rain
Reminds me that there's a time to change, hey hey hey
Since the return of her stay on the moon
She listens like spring and she talks like June, hey hey hey
Hey, hey, hey

But tell me, did you sail across the sun?
Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded
And that Heaven is overrated?
And tell me, did you fall for a shooting star?
One without a permanent scar, and did you miss me
While you were looking for yourself out there?

Now that she's back from that soul vacation
Tracing her way through the constellation, hey, hey hey
She checks out Mozart while she does Tae-Bo
Reminds me that there's a room to grow, hey, hey hey
Now that she's back in the atmosphere
I'm afraid that she might think of me as
Plain ol' Jane told a story about a man
Who was too afraid to fly, so he never did land

But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet?
Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
And head back to the Milky Way?
And tell me, did Venus blow your mind?
Was it everything you wanted to find, and did you miss me
While you were looking for yourself out there?

Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken
Your best friend always sticking up for you
Even when I know you're wrong?
Can you imagine no first dance, freeze-dried romance
Five hour phone conversation
The best soy latte that you ever had, and me?

But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet?
Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
And head back toward the Milky Way?
And tell me, did you sail across the sun?
Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded
And that Heaven is overrated?
And tell me, did you fall for a shooting star?
One without a permanent scar, and then you miss me
While you were looking for yourself?

Na-na, na-na, na-na
Na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na

And did you finally get the chance
To dance along the light of day?

Na-na, na-na, na-na
Na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na

And did you fall for a shooting star?
Fall for a shooting star?

Na-na, na-na, na-na
Na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na

And are you lonely looking for yourself out there?

Wow, this is fabulous! And there’s a video coming?! I can’t wait!
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

A first cut of the video was sneak-previewed on yesterday's Zoom call. Hope to be wrapped up soon!

I have a version of the video that I am ready to post, but for some reason our forum does not like the .mp4 file type ("invalid file extension" error) and will not let me post the file. The file size is within the 256MIB limit. Any suggestions?

You might need to upload it elsewhere, and then post a link. YouTube would work well. You can list it there as "private", but anyone with the link can access it. The link should also embed nicely here on xword-muggles, too.
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Afraid I have to confess that I couldn't appreciate its being based on the song (too old, too uncool to be familiar with it :P ) but I loved it in and of itself! Many lines and accompanying pictures had me smiling or chuckling out loud, and it certainly brought back some meta memories.
Thanks for sharing your ingenuity and talent, clonefitz!
