MWAAA-HA-HA!!!
Oh boy, I do predict a crowded ship this week!
This IS in my wheelhouse and I very nearly missed it!
Brilliant but fiendish.

For the bird lovers here, here are a few picks of the local cardinal. It is not actually a cardinal but likes impersonating one.

That is a red crested cardinal. They are found in Hawaii having been introduced about 1930. They are a member of the tanager family and not the cardinal family even though they look like our northern cardinals.Acarl wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 10:49 amBeautiful! Well, I'm ashore, but not through any insight on my part. Needed to be dragged all the way in by a friendly lifeguard. I agree with Other Wendy -- Uggh and Double Uggh. Hard pass on these kinds of puzzles. I'll take a G&T to drown my sorrows.

Good morning muggles. A tough one from Mr. Shenk that requires special knowledge. So far we have 8 on the ship and 50 on the shore.

On shore solely due to the help of those on Discord. Not a fan of this one in the least.I'd like to blame it on my Covid-head, but TBH I wouldn't have gotten this on my best day. Will not be submitting, and will delay my "celebratory" libation until my recovery is a bit more complete. Looking forward to a more reasonable metanism next week.

Well, I had to be dragged over the finish line on this one. Totally clueless. Thanks to my meta savior @Meg

Lost at sea. If it’s esoteric, and they say it is, I’ll probably never get it. But I’ll keep trying.

Ashore...what's going on? Mike's metas become Matt's and Matt's become Mike's?

Not seeing it. Deep down one rabbit hole and I’ve got to believe there’s a pot of gold at the end of this rainbow (deliberately mixing metaphors).

Yeah... maybe I'm just burnt out and not trying that hard. Or maybe it's difficult. (Or maybe I'm a dope.)
So I just plain couldn't get my meta based on "Up the Down Staircase" to work.
My challenge it to constructors is to make a meta where the meta, theme or metanism is "Up the Down Staircase".

On shore with a nudge. But... please don't ask me for a nudge. Because I can't even.
Happy to give nudges. If you notice I've solved, please tell me about avenues you've explored so I can nudge you in the right direction and not off a cliff.

There are very few actual cardinals in Hawaii, but these are everywhere.
They are not native, but then again, none actually are. The original hot lava was not conducive to nest building.
