This week's contest is Variety Show by Mike Shenk

the answer to this week's contest crossword is a ten letter word.

Good luck to all both on the grid and the meta.

And if you have not seen the articles on the crosswords and us from the WSJ, look in either the Acupulco Lounge or Welcome Aboard.

On shore! Benefit of having a college kid home with nothing to do...I convinced him to look at it with me, and he found the right path right away.

Got it. Nice one. But what does 28A mean or signify?

I would explain, but we're not supposed to post spoilers even about grid entries. But you can Google it.

On shore! The online version didn't have the prompt for the answer, but I decided to see if I could get there without it. Fortunately I did submit a 10-letter word.

If by โ€œprompt,โ€ you mean the hint, when that happened to me, I went back to the WSJ Puzzle Page and clicked โ€œPrintโ€ instead of โ€œPlay,โ€ and that version contained the hint. I then went back and solved on line.

Took a little while but finally got there. It's a great feeling when you have that "Aha Experience" and you stride up to the beachside bar.

Ashore. Easy grid; meta not immediately obvious but eventually the light came on.

Easy grid. This one is not singing to me as loudly as the last one did. I will step away and revisit in the morning.

Ashore! And the earliest for us in some time! (suggests this may be an all time record number of entries :-( )

The meta quickly popped for Rita - and I didn't have any opportunity to struggle over it :-)
