The infamous pageant puzzle had a lot of people thinking the first step was the only step - kind of the opposite of the usual tendency to overcomplicate things.

Wow, hard to believe that was 6 years ago.
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

Oh, yes, I predict some gnashing of teeth on Monday. It's a fun one, though.

Ashore here. Straightforward, unless I’m missing an extra step.

Oh I see that’s what pageant means. Thanks for the link explaining the origin.

I finished the grid today; no clue yet on the meta. But I have an excuse. I had open-heart surgery Monday for an aortic aneurysm. I just got out of the cardiac ICU today. I’m feeling much better and on the road to recovery.

I would post a picture but I can’t figure out how to do it on my phone.

I'm feeling really stupid right about now. I see the obvious but don't know what to do with it

On shore. Took a little while to get a final step in place! It’s a Scotch and Lemon Lift tea celebration tonight.

It must be the flu, but I'm just not seeing it. When page 1 is done in 20 minutes or less, it's usually pretty straightforward. Oh well. I'll keep at it.

Save my seat at the bar Isaac, I'll have a hot mocha with a little splash of Irish Whiskey!

Ashore! I've been working my way through the archives but this is the first time I've finished a puzzle the week of, and submitted. Wish me luck!

Ashore! (I didn’t get around to looking at this one until late in the evening, but then it kind of solved itself. Nice … 😜.)
