MGWCC #797 — Saturday, September 9th, 2023 — “College Search”

This week's contest answer, which is nine letters long, is an American university often mentioned in crossword clues.

NOTE: Due to the late post, the deadline for entry this week is Wednesday, September 13th at noon ET.

Good luck!

4th on the board, definitely more like a week 1 than a week 2 but that's fine. More time for the P&A magazine that comes out at 1 ET!

I still was a trickle hesitant for that reason. At the touchdown spot (#7...well, if you count the extra point!).

I found the WSJ a Week 3.5 or so, so this balances okay with me! Gives me more time to solve some logic problems and root for the Cubbies!

Happy solving, and have a good weekend, everyone!

#11. Agree that it seems more week 1 than 2, but also agree that it's fine by me.

Felt pretty week-one-ish to me as well. But also, I'm fine with that. Hope everyone has a swell weekend.
Happy to give nudges. If you notice I've solved, please tell me about avenues you've explored so I can nudge you in the right direction and not off a cliff.

Beamed up. Had a guess early in the solve; further grid filling confirmed it.

Submitted but I'm not sure it was right, although it seems like distinct answer.

Edit: Beamed up!

They look a little young for the college search.

Well that was blissfully straightforward. Awaiting beam but pretty darn sure, gonna be a big week I'll bet.

I didn't go to the Crossword Tournament in Bryant Park today (Mike Shenk and Amy Goldstein facilitators) so I was able to make it into the top 100 in a Week 2 MGWCC.
