Well, solved but still don't know what some of the answers to the clues mean? I t was a nice AHA but even knowing what 56D is I don't know what 56D is. Must be too old for this crowd (although they did use Velvet Fog so....)

Solution (briefly):

There are 5 short across answers that contain ME under the theme entries: TIME TAMERS MEH MME TORME. Look at the letters directly over each ME. They spell UNDERSTAND, which is the answer.
