MGWCC #745 — “Hanging by a Thread”

An excellent puzzle written by one of the innovators of the meta crossword format. It comes out every Friday at noon and increases in difficulty throughout the month. Available for modest subscription (worth every cent) here: www.xwordcontest.com

i didn't even notice that clue/answer when solving! Then yes, it's obviously the other one.
Happy to give nudges. If you notice I've solved, please tell me about avenues you've explored so I can nudge you in the right direction and not off a cliff.

Solved quickly... Not sure why the answer in the lower left bothers anyone.

Found early AM inspiration on a fresh look to beam me up, though didn't get around to submitting until this afternoon. Don't see an alternate answer which some have written about - hopefully will read explanation(s) after deadline has passed.

Sunday morning coffee and catching up on crosswords. Felt great to fly through MGWCC and beam up immediately. Maybe the momentum will help me on WSJ and others from this week that I haven't cracked.

Finally got around to looking at this one. SO glad it was easier than the MMMM and the WSJ. (Still haven't figured out the latter.)

Beamed up... Very fun puzzle. As I was watching the US Open I glanced down at the puzzle and it jumped out at me.

Beamed. Same on WSJ - - not there yet, and time is running out.
