And also solved. A bit tricky, imo.

Ruh roh. I jumped the gun. Peter told me I was warm, so I revisited the puzzle, saw what I needed to, and resubmitted. Now confirmed correct.

Hey, I kinda like the idea of a mini meta. Really focuses your attention. Wouldn't mind seeing more.

Just submitted, now worried I might have jumped the gun as it seemed self-contained, but did I miss something.
Did ask PGW if my solution was the answer or not.

Postscript - got it. Didn't jump the gun. Phew.

I'm afraid I've given up on this one, it's just beyond me! I have an answer but it's so much less than a 100% click that I'm not going to embarrass myself by sending it in. I enjoyed the grid and really like the idea of a mini-meta puzzle though!

I peek at this each day and so far I got nada, but I will try to look again before the deadline.

Submitted with confidence. Surprised to get an email from Peter late tonight: "No, sorry." Wonder what I missed.....

Ditto. Can't find a starting point.

I've sent in a guess based on a version of the first idea that came to mind. Not nearly 100%, and unlike Laura I'm alway fine with embarrassing myself.

Edit: "Sorry, no."

Had the right idea, but whiffed with my answer... well, more like my foul tip was held by the catcher. Whatever; a K is still a K. Even though my second answer was verified as correct, my new streak starts tomorrow (or with the next puzzle).

Didn't click the "with proper names" box in the anagram solver.

I also really wanted SWEET SALT SOUR BITTER UMAMI to play some role & was reluctant to give that up.

Edit: it's really super impressive how clean the grid is, especially the long, paired downs, given the constraint from the center across stack.

Nope, never would have gotten this, sorry PGW! Anagrams are not my thing. (Of course I still tried to anagram practically everything this puzzle--using an online generator--but never really with the right context...) I did think that the full celebrity names were significant, but I always included the down entry NINA AGDAL with the across three. And like Hector I was completely convinced that sweet/salty/sour/bitter/umami played a part somehow!
