On the board. At first I thought I'd nailed it. Then I had garbage. Then I saw some stuff I didn't see at first. Then I quickly solved it. If you've solved, you'll probably get what I mean.
Happy to give nudges. If you notice I've solved, please tell me about avenues you've explored so I can nudge you in the right direction and not off a cliff.

Only had to Google one thing for the grid. Saw nothing metalike at first, then saw something that made us jump to a wrong conclusion. But after more poking the real answer showed itself.

The mega however continues to elude.

Thanks, Meg, and I missed you guys, too! Not much happened at the meeting but there WAS a nice little reception -- with cake and cider! -- for a supervisor who is retiring.
Good luck, fellow Muggles!

Did you mean to post in the WSJ forum. Not many scary digits in parens in PM's puzzle this week.

As usual, I tried to make it more difficult than it was. This was my first MMMM and I'm happy to have made it to the leaderboard.

LOL THAT could explain why I've been staring without success at this one for days....

Hmmm, no numbers? Boo. Back to

I know I'm making this puzzle more difficult than it is. I've tried everything that's obvious to me and a few things which were certainly too complicated.
I wish there were some digits in parentheses so that I would know where to start.
