"Playlist Omission" - August 2020

A monthly, music-themed meta crossword published at noon on the first Tuesday of every month. The puzzles increase in difficulty each month, and at year end there is a 13th puzzle (the "Mega-Meta") that invokes each of the 12 monthly puzzles. I've only heard of the last one, Frank Sinatra.
I'm going to draw the grid and do the fill in pencil. It worked magic for Shenk's WSJCC. I didn't realize I had the 'specialized knowledge' required until I put it through the point of a pencil. It seemed to add an extra dimension to my thinking.

Well, that didn't work. I'm still as lost as ever. You're right. We must be missing something drastic, but at the same time simple. The meta version of a change-up.

Now that we're past the deadline, If the meta was a hit by The Bangels that completes the puzzle's playlist, it may have been too easy.

Although, they wouldn't have fit as seamlessly within the meta playlist given the other songs in the playlist.
